Jirina Marton Winner of 2009 Governor General's Literary Award: Children’s Literature – Illustration
Colborne Art Gallery member Jirina Marton has been awarded the 2009 Governor General’s Literary Award for her illustrations for "Bella’s Tree", text by Janet Russell. “Jirina Marton’s illustrations invite the reader to a winter landscape full of textures and subtle, earthy colour palettes. The Van Gogh-like interior and its warm tones create a holiday season mood that evokes an emotional response. The illustrations are well crafted and capture the imagination and humanity of the everyday lives they portray.” Visit website. |

The Colborne Art Gallery is the home of the Colborne Society of Artists. The Society is a collective that brings together a diverse group of creative people working independently in a variety of media. Their paintings, drawings, etchings, pottery and sculpture are on display year round at the Colborne Art Gallery in the historic village of Colborne, ninety minutes east of Toronto, near the shore of Lake Ontario.
The artists open a new show every six weeks. At intervals, a member or visiting artist may present a solo show in one of the Gallery's three rooms, in conjunction with the regular group shows. Work by Gallery artists is for sale, although the works shown on this site may not be those in a current show at the Gallery, and some works may already have been sold.
Throughout the ages, visual art has been the signature of the cultures in which it flourished. Come to the Colborne Art Gallery and experience the contribution made by one small corner of the world.
Message from the Curator
Hello and welcome to our Gallery. We are a wonderful selection of artists with enormous talent. Our members’ work include a broad range of styles and materials. Our Artists page gives you a taste of the work we do, but there is so much more.
Guest Artists: We exhibit regional artists outside our permanent members, 2 times a year. All interested parties are encouraged to apply (go to our Contact page for more information).
Music Events: We showcase local music talent right in our Gallery.
Poetry Events: Occasionally we have readings from talented Bards.
Our gallery is located in Historic Colborne, in an Historic building circa 1860. Our openings are wonderfully received and are lots of fun, so please come and join us sometime.
Sincerely, Tim Dignam, curator
