Barbara Buntin - Artist Statement

Making art and sharing it with others satisfies a yearning for personal expression as well as an interest in connecting and conversing with the viewer.

I am fascinated with the way that visual art becomes a form of language and a means for people to find resonance and shared experience. My own art making focuses on a desire to reflect an emotion or a moment in time that has affected me. In sharing this work I have found that it touches a place in the viewer, sometimes in ways I had not anticipated; that is often the place where I am re-inspired.

My recent work focuses on monotypes and washi paper collages. I like the ongoing challenge of unpredictable processes that force me to work with whatever the paper and paint present. I may begin with an image or theme in mind, but the materials and the process often lead me in to new territory.
