Pat Stanley - Artist Statement
I am currently examining the intersection of the natural and the constructed environment. Environmental degradation has concerned me for most of my life, and my work expresses this through a focus on the aesthetics of interference and disintegration.
In the “Urban Archaeology” series, the building facades act sometimes as a screen reflecting a version of reality, at other times a filter of the past or future landscape. These evolving urban barriers limit our perception of the natural.
The “Fault Lines” series explores the reclamation of human artifacts by the natural environment. In representations of an idyllic rural world, structures that remind us of our agricultural past reveal unsettling elements of distortion and deconstruction. |
